Down-East Open Water Development 2019

August 9 - August 11

Prudence At Ironbound By Nick Schade

DOWN-EAST OPEN WATER DEVELOPMENT
8/9 – 8/11
FRENCHMEN’S BAY, DOWNEAST MAINE

This event is the evil brainchild of Gerry spending too much time with Kelsey&Jonathan Oltz.  Sticking with the success of last year’s program, this is an instructional focused on developing personal paddle skills for rough water.
Acadia Park and Mount Desert Island offer a shockingly magnificent backdrop to some of the east coast’s best rock gardening, island hopping and easy access to Sullivan Reversing Falls which is very much like a dynamic white water field in a salt water setting.
The Oltz’sbring a bucketful of youthful enthusiasm to paddles.  Their level of excitement is infectious (social disease) and their instructional approach is reassuringly supportive.  It’s an interesting contrast to Gerry’s charmingly surly persona.
We’ll stay at a group site at a campground which is definitely a best in class.  All meals are catered.  We’ll take breakfasts and dinners at a log cabin “mess hall” and be supplied with a bagged lunch to take paddling.  This is an really fun event in a truly fantastic setting that offers a wide variety of paddle adventures.
Skill Level: Advanced beginner to Intermediate Open Water Paddlers
Price:  $665 including the cost of instructors, campground fees and all meals being catered
