Advanced Skills & Rescues

September 29 - September 30

“Sea Go Boom”

Advanced Skills & Rescues

9/28 – 9/29

Coastal Connecticut & Rhode Island

Geared towards anyone from intermediate to advanced open water paddler, this event combines active water skills with rescues appropriate to those conditions.  Options for paddle venues include tide races, surf and rock gardening.

The end of September marks the first springs tide cycle after the autumnal equinox so there will be a ton of moving water out there.  This area offers some of the best tide races on the eastern seaboard plus great surf and rock gardening.  We’ll go to where conditions are best to work on comfort and control in moving water and the techniques for dealing with inevitable mishaps: Piles of tows (toggle, contact, roped, anchor) and all flavors of self and assisted rescues, etc…  Late season warm water will be our friend and we’ll spend plenty of time in it.  Scheduled to hit the fall hurricane season sweet spot, the chances of favorable conditions are maximized.

We’ll balance time between working skills and having a play.  As a more accomplished group, participants will have the option of getting in on tidal planning and daily venue choices.  Most of us (I’m guilty too) don’t leave enough time, during the primary paddle season, to hone our rescues and try to make up for it in winter pool sessions.  This is an opportunity to get together with other strong paddlers to push boundaries on your open water capacities

Skill Level:  Advanced Intermediate To Advanced Open Water Paddlers

Price: $350 for the course itself.  We can investigate housing options once the head count is in if the participants are interested.  There would be no problem picking up an Airbnb.
